Local Club Rules

1.            OUT OF BOUNDS - (RULE 2.1)

A ball is ‘out of bounds’ when lying beyond:

a)            Any fence, wall, hedge (defined by their trunks or foremost stems), gate or gateway bounding the course.

b)            Any line of white posts, other than the posts on the 14th when playing the 15th hole.

c)            The passageway from the 1st green to the 2nd tee.

d)            Greenkeepers’ compound as defined by white stakes/markings.

e)            White stakes and markings behind the 18th green and the artificial path surrounding the club house.

The line defining the boundary is the line joining the nearest inside posts at ground level of such posts, markings, fence and gate posts, hedge trunks and stems and the inside face of any wall. A ball is ‘out of bounds’ when all of it lies over such a line.

2.            PENALTY AREAS - (RULE 17)

Penalty areas are defined by either red or yellow stakes.

3.            ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITIONS (Including Immovable Obstructions) - (RULE 16)

a)            Trees supported by stakes, wrapped or bounded. This also includes the areas defined as young tree plantations (compulsory free drop to
                protect young trees).

b)            All bridges and crossings within a general line of a penalty area are deemed to be within the penalty area.

c)            Immovable obstructions close to the putting green. If a ball lies in a general area and an immovable on or within two club-lengths of the ball
               intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief.

d)            Dotted white lines around green’s surrounds.

4.            MOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS – (RULE 15.2)

All stakes except white stakes, benches, bins, divot boxes and rakes.

5.            GROUND UNDER REPAIR- (RULE 16)

a)            Temporary greens when not in play where marked.

b)            Ruts caused by vehicles.

c)            Areas inside blue stakes between 7th and 12th and the practice chipping area, relief either not nearer the hole being played or in Drop Zones
               where provided.

d)            Those areas defined by continuous white lines or notice.

6.            RELIEF FROM AERATION HOLES – COMMITTEE PROCEDURES IV – 8E-4

On the putting green, a ball that comes to rest in or on an aeration hole may be placed at the nearest spot not nearer the hole (Rule 16.1d.) however interference does not exist if the aeration holes are on the player’s line of play.

7.            PRACTICE- COMMITTEE PROCEDURES IV – 8I-1.2

The chipping area, bunker and green close to the 17th tee, defined by blue stakes, may be used by competitors for practice on the day of a stroke play competition.

8.            TEMPORARY LOCAL RULES

Temporary Local Rules will be posted on notice boards when required.

9.            PENALTIES FOR INFRINGEMENT OF LOCAL RULE:

Match Play – Loss of hole; Stroke Play – Two strokes.

IF IN DOUBT ABOUT THE RULES – play two balls in stroke play (Rule 20.1c(3)) and consult the competition organiser at the end of your round.

10.           UGC COMMITTEES HAVE ADOPTED THE FOLLOWING MODEL LOCAL RULE REGARDING CADDIES:

Rule 10.3a is modified in this way: A player must not have another player in the competition, who has played or will play in the same round, as their caddie during a round. The player gets the General Penalty for each hole during which there is a breach of this Local Rule. If the breach occurs between the play of two holes, it applies to the next hole.

• The player gets the general penalty for each hole during which they are helped by more than one caddie at any one time.
• If the breach happens or continues between two holes, the player gets the general penalty for the next hole.

The position of the flagstick on the green is shown by the flag colour:

Front – Red Middle – Yellow Back – White
